Paper Craft Digital Samples
Last week's class we were introduced to the idea and process of paper craft and the technique needed to digitally make our designs. For this week's assignment we were put to the test of creating ten objects shown as a whole and unfolded into a two dimensional spread. For my objects I chose things that I really particularly like or associate with a good memory.
3. Lipstick
1. Headphones
This was an obvious choice for me, since I am a huge fan of music and have it playing constantly.
2. Mini Mountain Range
Calgary was my dream city to live in and go to school for how close it was to the mountains.
3. Lipstick
4. Petite Purse
This was made for my obsession with bags and it reminds me of good times with my mother.
5. Perogys. My Favourite.
I wanted to experiment with splitting shapes and three dimensional rotation to create my favourite food.
6. The Most Uncomfortable Shoe in the World
My attempt at a high heeled show. This was definitely the most complex shape to make as I got comfortable with the commands and processes of the software.
In my shoe design there was a miniscule error of the folded shape running into another. This can be fixed by adjusting my design slightly.
7. Catching Some Zee's
A good night's sleep is possibly the greatest thing ever and something I miss since starting at ACAD. I decided to represent this with a very minimal bed and frame.
8. Trophy Triumph
This was the design of a trophy my best friends and I won at one of our major competitions.
9. Plateau Tutu
This design was inspired by a tutu of a ballerina with its intricate pleats.
10. Humble Hut
This was the first design that I "mastered" in class during and after tutorials. This shape taught me the basics and principles of Rhino and this project.
As we were first learning Rhino, I really found myself frustrated with the program and frankly I felt lost. After experimenting a bit and following through the notes I had taken, I found that as I began to spend more time using Rhino, it became (I'm definitely not going to say simple or easy) more familiar and made it a lot better to handle and be able to create. I had a couple challenges with literally everything at the start, but again the farther I got into the project and into using this project became pretty enjoyable. I was pretty excited to be able to refine and memorize all the skills we learnt from last day's class and I actually had fun doing it.
