Mesh Mashup Part 2

As I started this project, I thought of which object to design and render with lighting, and my bridge-tree was what I had always pictured in my head. After presenting my collection of mesh mashup items, I got a good set of reviews. My crew of peers responded positively to the colour pallet, use of objects, and overall collective idea. Overall, they thought the idea to pair a greyscale object with a bright natural one contributed to the cohesiveness of the project really tying them all together as one. They also liked my concept as the natural versus man-made idea to create a collection of work rather than simply ten very different, unique items. All together they had chosen my rose lamp, grass bus, and the stumped bench, although for me personally they were not my favorites or was I even confident with them. I chose the rose lamp like they said, although once I had imported it into Rhino, the idea of playing with lighting hadn’t worked how I wanted. Trying to give off like from the flowers like a true street lamp did not play out how I intended to I decided to play off the shadows of the bridge concept. Although their response was extremely helpful and kind, I did end up choosing the piece I found most interesting rather than the popular vote unfortunately.

My creation relays the themes of remix culture by the integration of pre-existing contrasting items. In the sense of combining separate existing ideas to form a new one, I had included objects that were known to everyone and combined them in such a way that seemed ironic. Natural and industrial items were juxtaposed together in a mashup to create a very interesting looking remix of those objects. This creation relates to the remix culture for its ability to rethink the common element to turn it into something unique and interesting.
With an addition to this post I struggled and overlooked the element of really refining the object further.
